Atlantis? No, it Atlant-isn’t

leave a comment »

Some have speculated that these are the plow marks of seafloor farming by aliens. If there really are little green men hiding somewhere, the ocean’s not a bad place to do it. Mars, Venus, the moon, and even some asteroids are mapped at far higher resolution than our own oceans (the global map of Mars is about 250 times as accurate as the global map of our own ocean).

One theory that’s gained more traction is that these marks might be the ruins of the lost city of Atlantis. If that were the case, some of the city blocks would have to be over eight miles long – that’s about fifty times the size of a city block in New York City (if you zoom in and use the measurement tool in Google Earth, you can do this comparison yourself).

Black Hole In The Ocean

Delegates at Idex said several Kilo-Class submarines had also been sold to other countries along with the Russian army, including China, India, Indonesia, Libya, Romania, Poland and Venezuela. Dubbed “a black hole in the ocean”, the diesel-run non-nuclear Kilo-Class is believed to be one of the most advanced submarines in the world and its maker, Rubin Company, hopes other countries in the Middle East would buy the vessel.

Waltzing with Zionism

Of course, they want to focus on the massacres of Sabra and Shatila because they want to maintain a theoretical distance of responsibility. But the Israeli invasion of Lebanon killed 20,000 Lebanese and Palestinian civilians why not cover the rest of the victims. I guess it would not be possible to blame all that on the Phalanges, huh?

Darwinism Must Die So That Evolution May Live

leave a comment »

Equating evolution with Charles Darwin ignores 150 years of discoveries, including most of what scientists understand about evolution. Such as: Gregor Mendel’s patterns of heredity (which gave Darwin’s idea of natural selection a mechanism — genetics — by which it could work); the discovery of DNA (which gave genetics a mechanism and lets us see evolutionary lineages); developmental biology (which gives DNA a mechanism); studies documenting evolution in nature (which converted the hypothetical to observable fact); evolution’s role in medicine and disease (bringing immediate relevance to the topic); and more.

A1GP Lippo Karawaci Dibatalkan

leave a comment »

A1GP’s proposed street race in Jakarta has been cancelled after the circuit failed to meet the completion deadline set by the FIA.

The Herman Tilke-designed Lippo Village circuit in Indonesia was removed from the international calendar by the sport’s governing body today because the track promoter and event organiser had not completed the work necessary for it to be granted the licence to host the round.

Simpati Kepada Penjajah

“We have nowhere else to go. Even if our land is burning, it’s still ours,” says a soft-spoken reservist named Noam, a TV producer in civilian life. He tells me: “Do me a favor, OK? Tell your readers that we’re just normal guys caught in an impossible situation.

Wherever I go, I hear the same tired Middle East comparisons

leave a comment »

My favourite moment came when I pointed out that journalists should be on the side of those who suffer. If we were reporting the 18th-century slave trade, I said, we wouldn’t give equal time to the slave ship captain in our dispatches. If we were reporting the liberation of a Nazi concentration camp, we wouldn’t give equal time to the SS spokesman. At which point a journalist from the Jewish Telegraph in Prague responded that “the IDF are not Hitler”. Of course not. But who said they were?
